The Top Thai Dishes to Try While Visiting the Country

Have you recently booked a first-time trip to the exotic and beautiful destination of
Thailand? Thailand offers tourists all kinds of fabulous and memorable experiences
such as its stunning and pristine beaches, its lively city of Bangkok where you can do
everything from taking in a festival to getting a Bangkok tattoo, its unique architecture,
warm climate, friendly culture, and a huge list of must-see attractions. However, when
it comes to the stand-out features of Thailand, its cuisine is right there at the top of the
list.
Thai Curry, Green Curry, Curry, Chili, Hot, Spicy
Thai cuisine is something that is celebrated all around the world and is known for its dishes
that, make use of local ingredients, are full of flavor, and are bursting with color. If you happen
to love spicy dishes, then Thailand will really have you covered.
In order to help you navigate the local menus and ensure you sample all the standout dishes,
here’s a look at the top dishes you’ll want to try while visiting Thailand.

Pad Thai

Just about anyone who knows the basics about Thai cuisine is familiar with pad Thai. The
name means stir-fried noodles, but it's so much more than that. Often it will contain chicken,
vegetables, and/or seafood. If you aren't a fan of super spicy dishes, you'll appreciate the fact
that pad Thai tends to be more sweet and sour rather than spicy.
For the true authentic experience, be sure to try it from the street vendors or local restaurants.
You’ll get a truer sense of the dish.

Spring Rolls

When it comes to a staple dish that you will find at just about any vendor or restaurant in Thailand,
spring rolls are right near the top of the list. What's great about spring rolls is that they are light
enough that you can have them as a snack, or you can order a few and enjoy them as a full meal.
Look for a vendor that makes them fresh in front of you for a more flavorful roll. Again, this isn’t
a particularly spicy dish, so it can be that perfect starter food before you get into the really spicy
items.

Tom Yum Goong - Spicy Shrimp Soup

Once you're ready for something a bit spicier, then the Tom Yum Goong dish is an absolute must.
This is spicy shrimp soup and is absolutely filled with flavor. Just be warned, this soup has a kick.
Key ingredients in the soup include mushrooms, fresh prawns, chili, lemongrass, kaffier lime leaves,
galangal, shallots, fish sauce, lime juice, and coconut cream if requested.

Som Tam - Spicy Green Papaya Salad

A great way to sample fresh, crisp, local ingredients is to opt for a salad, but the Som Tam salad
is like nothing you've likely sampled before. This salad contains peanuts, shredded green papaya, dried shrimp,
carrots, tomatoes, fish sauce, and runner beans among other ingredients. Just as the name implies, this
one is very spicy.

Eating Your Way through Thailand

One thing is for sure, a visit to Thailand guarantees you an incredible number of dishes to sample,
each with its own unique take on local flavors and ingredients.
